By now we've learned the drill: organic is best. However, not everyone has the budget required to switch
totally to organic foods. Thankfully Dr. Andrew Weill has a list of 11 fruits and vegetables that are OK to

I'm guessing that most of these items are on the list because they have fairly burly skins or peels that

Baby Carrots you buy in the Supermarkets - Good to Know
The following is information from a farmer who grows and packages carrots for IGA, METRO,
LOBLAWS, etc. The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made using the
larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots. Most people probably know this already.
What you may not know and should know is the following: once the carrots are cut and shaped into
cocktail carrots they are dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to preserve them (this is
the same chlorine used in your pool) since they do not have their skin or natural protective covering,
they give them a higher dose of chlorine.
You will notice that once you keep these carrots in your refrigerator for a few days, a white covering
will form on the carrots, this is the chlorine which resurfaces.
At what cost do we put our health at risk to have esthetically pleasing vegetables which are practically plastic? We do hope that this information can be passed on to as many people as possible in the hopes
of informing them where these carrots come from and how they are processed. Chlorine is a very well
known carcinogen. Please let us make this information available to as many people as possible. If you

leaving six percent classified as severe.

To sell their drugs, pharmaceutical companies hire
former cheerleaders and ex-models to wine and dine
doctors, exaggerate the drug's benefits and underplay
their side-effects, a former sales rep told a
Congressional committee this morning.
(abc news)Shahram Ahari, who spent two years selling
Prozac and Zypraxa for Eli Lily, told a Senate Aging
Committee chaired by Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Wisc., that his
job involved "rewarding physicians with gifts and
attention for their allegiance to your product and
company despite what may be ethically appropriate."
Ahari claims that drug companies like hiring former
cheerleaders and ex-models, as well as former athletes
and members of the military, many of whom have no
background in science.
"On my first day of sales class, among 21 trainees and
two instructors, I was the only one with any level of
college-level science education," Ahari told
ABCNews.com on Tuesday.
During their five-week training class, Ahari claims
that instructors teach sales tactics, including how to
exceed spending limits for important clients, being
generous with free samples to leverage sales, using
friendships and personal gifts to foster a "quid pro
quo" relationship, and how to exploit sexual tension.
"The nature of this business is gift-giving," says
Ahari. He claims that he's heard stories about sales
reps helping to pay the cost of a doctor's swimming
pool and another doctor who was routinely taken to a
nightclub where a hostess was paid to keep him
company.
Drug reps develop a positive view of their drug and a
negative view of the competitors, according to Ahari.
"You drink the Kool-Aid. We were taught to minimize
the side effects and how to use conversational ploys
to minimize it or to change the topic."
According to Ahari, the benefits could be lucrative
for sales reps, who tended to earn more than
researchers. On top of a base salary for starting reps
of $50,000, "there were four quarterly bonuses, an
annual bonus, stock options, a car, 401K, great health
benefits, and a $60,000 expense account."

I would like to thank those of you who expressed condolences on the recent passing of my mother. She suffered a hemorrhagic strokewhile she was driving home from my house on 7/30 and passed away on 8/3. My mother's stroke and passing was an enormous shock to my family because she did not have any symptoms or risk factors for a stroke. Just the week before she had gone to her doctor for a check up and received a clean bill of health. She did, however, develop a cold while she was visiting me and had taken Alka Seltzer Cold Plus for 3 days. Since her passing, we have learned that Alka Seltzer is one of the many cold medicines that contains Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) which can cause hemorrhagic stokes or cerebral bleeding even with the first use. I am forwarding a list of other medications that currently use PPA. These medicines are supposedly being recalled but my mother just purchased this medication less than two weeks ago. Pharmaceutical companies have known about this danger for years, we unfortunately, did not.
I urge you to review the list of medicines with PPA and avoid these medications. All drugs containing PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE are dangerous. You may want to try calling the 800 number listed on most drug boxes and inquire about a REFUND. Please read this CAREFULLY. Also, please pass this on to everyone you know. STOP TAKING anything containing this ingredient. It has been linked to increased hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in brain) among women ages 18-49 in the three days after starting use of medication. Problems were not found in men, but the FDA recommended that everyone (even children) seek alternative medicine.

Estrogen-like Compound Pollution
Another factor that has generally been overlooked by the medical community is the recent introduction
of estrogen-like compounds into our environment. These compounds make their way into the body
through respiration, ingestion of contaminated food, and skin contact. Once in the body, they block
thyroid hormone production and contribute to hypothyroidism. These compounds include such
environmental pollutants as PCBs, dioxins, and pesticides such as lindane or dieldrin.
Besides increasing the risk of estrogen-dependent cancers, these estrogen-like pollutants block
the production of thyroid hormones. Unfortunately, these pollutants can now be found in both our food

Yea! for Ron Paul!
Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) says, “enough is
enough,” to the Big Pharma Bullies running the FDA.
He has introduced bill H.R. 2117 (the Health Freedom
Protection Act) into the House of Representatives,
which would effectively stop the FDA from censoring
truthful claims about the health benefits of dietary
supplements.
He wants to put an end to the federal bureaucrats’
meddling with your right to choose healthy
alternatives over harmful and deadly patent drugs, and
believes Americans should not be prevented form
learning about simple ways to improve their health.
This bill puts the burden of proof on the FDA/FTC when
it comes to proving that a label or advertisement is
false and misleading. As it stands now, the
manufacturer has to satisfy an unobtainable standard
of proof—as was the case with the American cherry
growers a few years ago. The FDA went on a witch-hunt
after the growers used evidence from studies funded by
the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to state that
cherries have anti-inflammatory properties.
The FDA ruled that the cherry growers could not use
that evidence to make these claims. Instead, the FDA
approved another dangerous anti-inflammatory drug that
went on to take the lives of some 20,000 Americans …
Clearly, the FDA does not object to the spilling of
blood in the course of maintaining the pharmaceutical
status quo.
Big Pharma has the FDA firmly in pocket, and censoring
vital information—like the fact that eating 20
cherries has the same effect as popping aspirin or a
Cox-2 inhibiting drug—is their only way to stay in
business! Perhaps bill H.R. 2117 can get enough
traction to stick if enough of us stand firmly behind
it, pushing at the rear.
